Ski Bums

My dad and I have tried to get together at least once each year at White Grass, in the Canaan Valley, to go cross-country skiing. Six years ago, we went skiing on my birthday. When we got to the top of the mountain, I told him he was going to be a grandpa. He kept tripping on his skis all day after that.

Since then, we’ve had a few winters when I’ve been anchored to a nursing baby and unable to ski. But mostly, we’ve managed to get out there at least once. Two years ago, we took Carlos and Silas. Silas was so cute on his little skis!

Last year, we didn’t manage to find a time when Dad and I were both available. But a week ago, I managed to take all my kids out there. The day was really too warm for skiing. Lots of slush! But no one complained about being cold. Petra enjoyed it, but she got tired quickly. Silas had a great time. And Carlos, as always, was a delight to have along.

The kids are asking if we can do it again next year.
