Winter’s consolation

The one lovely thing about late winter here in the Shenandoah Valley is our sunsets. With the sun so far to the south, the light just spills up the valley, and everything glows. I love getting on Facebook after I put the kids to bed and seeing that nearly everyone I know in the Valley has posted a sunset picture. They are that good–the whole area just stops and gapes.

Wednesday night, mist was rising off the wet ground as the sun was going down. The effect was kind of ombre, with dark colors near the ground blending up to the light and bright sky. It looked like a painting from a fairy tale. I thought, “I’ll never be able to capture this with the camera,” but I had try.

Much to my shock, when I pulled the photos off the camera, I had that golden glow down in pixels. How this happened, I don’t know. More magic.
