Loving Syntax

Petra’s first sentence, officially, is “I love ______.” I say sentence rather than phrase, because she has discovered the possibility of swapping out bits of a sentence to make new meaning. “Love” is her only verb, “I” her only subject, but the objects are many.

“I love you.”
“I love…Mama!”

“I love…bruvver.”

“I love…Lyra.”

“I love…baby!”

“I love…belly button!”

Beyond that, her conversation is limited to naming parts of one’s face (always starting with the nose), and emphatic “yesh!” or “No no.”

I can’t think of a better first sentence.
