One Year of Winchester

My mom and Gary had a party a couple weeks ago to celebrate the end of their first year in Winchester. It’s hard to believe it’s only been a year.

Before the party, we went downtown to see Gary perform, and to check out the AWESOME splash pad they put in their pedestrian mall. I think we need one of these over by the Turner Pavilion, right, Harrisonburg?

Trying to get from the splash pad to the car took FOR.EVER. because everyone knew my folks. They stopped, they chatted, they invited people to the party.

And people came–which is good, because there was great food and great games.

I’ve always been amazed at my mom’s ability to connect with people and become instantly part of their lives. She says that she doesn’t quite have friends like she did in West Virginia–which is true, those kinds of friendships can only come from digging through the hard-scrabble soil of life together for thirty years–but she has friends, and after only a year, that’s pretty good.

I think Gary should run for mayor. He could have frisbees instead of campaign signs.

Lots of fun looking photos. Kids LOVE those places. First one I ever saw was in Portland, OR.
