Playdate Update

What our playdates look like–flowers, tea, insanity.

At our last playdate, I actually managed to get out the camera and snap a few pictures. The bigger kids played quite independently for a long time, so I didn’t get many shots of them (not one of Silas!).

Arthur and Petra

It’s only a matter of time until those babies are on the move, too. Bethany told a story about a boy she grew up with, whose father was a photographer. He insisted that she and the boy get their picture taken together frequently, as they were close in age. After a certain point, mid-elementary school, that sort of thing becomes embarrassing. “I wonder if Petra and Arthur will feel that way,” she said.

I related JC’s comment on some of the pictures of Silas and Elisabeth from last summer: “They’d make a terrible couple, because they are just like each other, but we would have the best wedding slideshow if they ever got married.”

Ready TO GO (crazy?)

It’s fun to see the kids growing up together, to notice that they are moving (slowly) from parallel play to sharing, to see their relationships develop.

Such big girls!

Elisabeth’s ability to remember things and connect them is fantastic. Last summer, a log swing clocked Lillian in the forehead. She had a bad cut from it, and there was blood everywhere. Recently, the same swing knocked Elisabeth. “I’ve been Lillianed!” she said.

She and James invented a game, which is like tag, but where you hang on to each person for a long time after you catch them. They call it “Silas.”

Daddy’s boy.

I can’t wait to see how Bethany’s new baby fits into our mix.

A word on the beverages documented here: I love how I’m grabbing my coffee cup. Also, that beer can was empty!
