Kids’ Press

This is a throw-WAY-back.

When I was a kid, my brother and I used to go spend a week or so with my Granny, who lived on her cabin cruiser in Long Island Sound. The boat was docked nearly all the time, and we loved to hang out on the dock and go down to the little beach to dig clams or watch horseshoe crabs.

Just a few slips down was “Three-Daughter John,” who, as you might imagine, had three daughters (Rose, Deb, and Jen). We collaborated on a little zine for three different summers, when I was 7, 8, and 9. I came across my copies of them and thought they’d be fun to share.

The influence of the “Kids Day” section of Newsday is very, very clear.

I think the advice pages are my favorite. There’s a nice drawing of my granny (“JoAnn”) in there, too, if you look closely.
